Examples of alternative activities

  • Tactical or video meeting

  • Stretching and conditioning

  • Rules and sport-understanding study

  • Reviewing team goals

  • Equipment maintenance

  • Short recreational activity

SECTIONAlternatives that require travel

If you move to an outside facility such as a gymnasium, confirm availability, reservations, vehicles, travel time and fees. Bad weather can also worsen road conditions, so avoid forcing unnecessary travel.

Do not overfill the replacement schedule

Even if rain reduces training volume, the group can switch to recovery or reflection. Do not add so much replacement training that fatigue or accidents become more likely.

SECTIONSet the rain decision criteria in advance

If everyone begins discussing the decision on the morning itself, venue and transport arrangements can be delayed. Prioritize the rules of the sport organization, venue and transport operator, and decide in advance who makes the decision at what time and what will be communicated to participants.

SECTIONChoose the alternative based on the camp objective

Do not simply fill indoor time because it is raining. Decide whether the priority is skill development, tactical understanding, team building or recovery. Even if the original sport activity cannot simply be moved indoors, prepare an activity that can pursue the original objective in another way.

SECTIONDo not assume it can be done inside the accommodation

Even in a large shared space, ball use, jumping, noisy exercise or moving furniture may be prohibited. Before fixing the alternative, confirm what spaces and times may be used, the effect on floors and walls, and consideration for other guests.

SECTIONPrepare the decision time and notification message

If discussion starts on the morning itself, communication to participants and the venue will be delayed. Set decision points such as the previous evening and the morning of the activity, and prepare one message covering outdoor cancellation, the alternative activity, meeting point and required items.

Also confirm the cost and travel needed for alternatives

Changing to an outside sports or cultural facility can involve availability, fees, vehicles, changing space, reservations and cancellation conditions. During planning, confirm whether a provisional rainy-day reservation is possible or whether same-day arrangements would be realistic.

SECTIONOnce outdoor activity is canceled, do not leave part of it unofficially active

If some participants go out for independent practice after the group has decided to cancel outdoor activity, safety management becomes fragmented. Define the group's permitted activity range and meeting point, and do not let the original plan restart through individual decisions.

Send all necessary rainy-day information together

If you send only the decision first and add details repeatedly, participants may keep referring to an older message. Add an update time to the revised notice and clearly state what changed from the previous plan.
